Routine Overview
Remove limescale buildup from the boiler and internal water pathways to extend machine life and maintain performance.
Limescale buildup reduces heating efficiency, clogs water pathways stressing the pump, and can cause boiler failure in worst cases. It also affects coffee taste.
If coffee tastes odd after descaling: Insufficient rinsing. Run 2-3 more water tanks through.
If extraction remains slow: Heavy limescale buildup possible. Repeat entire process once more.
Using filtered water can extend descaling intervals to 3-4 months.
Monthly descaling recommended in hard water areas.

1. Machine Preparation
Remove portafilter and empty water tank.
Ensure machine is completely cool before starting.
2. Prepare Descaling Solution
Pour half bottle of descaling solution into water tank and fill to MAX line with cold water.
Maintain exact solution concentration.
Never use vinegar or other acidic substances.
3. First Cycle
Run 2 cups (5.1fl oz (150ml) each) through steam wand and 2 cups through group head.
Place large container under drip tray.
4. Soak Time
Turn off machine and let solution work for 20 minutes.
This time is crucial for limescale removal.
5. Second Cycle
Turn on machine and repeat same process as first cycle through steam wand and group head, 2 cups each. Continue until tank is empty.
This will typically require 4-5 repetitions.
6. Rinse - Critical Step
Fill tank with fresh water and run entire tank through steam wand.
Skipping this step may result in chemical taste in subsequent coffee.
7. Final Rinse
Refill with fresh water, attach portafilter, and run entire tank through group head.
Repeat this process 4 times (4 full tanks) for complete rinsing.
